Yesterday, hundreds of people came to the Design Center in Potrero Hill to eat barbecued pork belly sliders, roasted salmon, braised tenderloin, ceviche, and cupcakes, then return to the beginning to start eating them all over again. It was SF Weekly's DISH, our annual celebration of San Francisco's restaurant scene.

Greeted by food trucks and plied with craft brews, attendees could choose bites from 40 San Francisco restaurants and bakeries. Photographer Gil Riego Jr. was on hand to compile photographic evidence of the event.

Two floors, dishes from 40 restaurants, wine and cocktails aplenty: This Sunday afternoon, Oct. 2, SF Weekly and SFoodie are throwing DISH, our annual pageant celebrating San Francisco's food scene.

Many of the participating restaurants have been selected by SF Weekly restaurant critic Jonathan Kauffman: Chabaa, the Sunset restaurant with a special Northeastern Thai menu, and Chinatown's much-loved Bund Shanghai; local barbecue masters Good Foods Catering and Slow Hand BBQ; high-creativity bistros La Mar Cebicheria and Anchor & Hope; and sweets from Goody Goodie, Knead Patisserie, and Mission Minis. (For a full list of restaurants, visit the DISH 2011 website.)

DISH this year will be held in the galleria of the SF Design Center at the base of Potrero Hill, and part of the proceeds will benefit La Cocina, San Francisco's innovative incubator program for food entrepreneurs.

General admission tickets, now on sale through EventBrite, cost $40, while VIP tickets granting you special access to special food, drinks, and take-home treats, cost $75. Type "sfoodie" into the discount code line, and you save $10 per ticket.

SF Weekly's DISH Preview: Zinfandel-Braised Beef from Alfred's Steakhouse

Eighty-three years Alfred's Steakhouse has been in business. That certainly qualifies as venerable. The restaurant has broiled more steaks than you've written emails, and poured more single-malt scotch than Sean Connery has ever put away.

This Sunday, as just one of the 40 restaurants participating at SF Weekly's annual dining event -- whose proceeds benefit La Cocina -- Alfred's will be tastes of its Zinfandel-braised tenderloin stew and chocolate chip croissant bread pudding.

The final lineup at SF Weekly's dining event includes La Mar Cebicheria, Schmidt's, Turtle Tower, and Good Foods Catering, not to mention plenty of wine, beer, and spirits. And as an SFoodie reader, you get $10 off the ticket price just by typing "sfoodie" in the space for the discount code.

SF Weekly's Dish Preview: Thai Ceviche from Anchor & Hope

Anchor & Hope is known for its raw shellfish and its fish 'n' chips, its unfussy but creative rethinking of the seafood house.

This Sunday, as just one of the 40 restaurants on parade at SF Weekly's annual dining event, chef Eric Markoff will be preparing a ceviche of rock shrimp, squid, mussels, and cod mixed with lime and Thai chile spice, then setting the ceviche on a dollop of avocado mousse.

The final lineup at SF Weekly's dining event includes La Mar Cebicheria, Hard Knox Cafe, Bund Shanghai, and Knead Patisserie, not to mention plenty of wine, beer, and spirits. And as an SFoodie reader, you get $10 off the ticket price just by typing "sfoodie" in the space for the discount code.

Chabaa Thai is a heavyweight, even among the throngs of Thai restaurants that pepper the Sunset. Its Thai-language menu -- first created for insiders -- is so legit that we had to translate it ourselves just so we could come back and order from it again.

But the regular menu holds gems as well -- and those who are tired of the same ol' pad thai can get a tingle on their tastebuds at SF Weekly's Dish event, where Chabaa will serve up spice.

Good Foods Catering, the soul-food brain- (or stomach-?) child of Dontaye Ball, has a name that's an understatement, at least according to its many fans.

"My one and only complaint is that they're not appropriately named," writes Yelp reviewer Robyn H. of San Jose. "It should be like 'Best Thing You'll Ever Eat Catering'."

Ball's slow-cooked, specialty smoked meats -- pork belly sandwiches, bacon, and bitchin' barbecue -- have earned his catering company praise for its pig.
