Some of S.F.'s Best New Chicken Wings Are Coming to Dear Mom on Saturday
Hope you don't have out-of-town plans for the Fourth of July because you'll be missing out on an appearance by The Other Guys, a newish pop-up from alums of State Bird Provisions, Nopa, Bar Tartine, and more. The trio has done more structured, coursed dinners at a few spots around town, but this time they're at Dear Mom and focusing on bar food. Specifically chicken wings.
Anna Roth Aromatic spiced wings from The Other Guys.
I went to a dinner they put on in the old Hi-Lo BBQ space a couple months back and was damn impressed with the wings they served. They were fried and coated with a dust of at least seven different peppers, including numbing Sichuan peppercorns, along with salt, coriander, ginger, and dehydrated Meyer lemon peel that hit the taste buds like an electric shock. They also served a fantastic pork jowl/shellfish/kimchee number that they are riffing on for a crispy pork rib bar snack.
Here's the bar menu for Dear Mom on Saturday (11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
aromatic spiced wings 10
smoked chili buffalo wings 10
crispy pork ribs with kimchi 12
charred pardons with sweet corn pudding and buttermilk 8
lime marinated cucumbers with seaweed spice 5
If you can't make it or prefer your food in more genteel environs, the gang plans to return to full dinner pop-ups later this summer.
