Gifts and Holiday Cocktails from T-WE TEA and Got Milk?
Although coffee has achieved near-ubiquity, tea seems to lag behind. This is a peculiar situation, considering how varied tea can be, and how inexpensive it is. Unlike the big-name third-wave coffee roasteries, there are comparatively fewer tea houses of note.
While T-WE TEA in the Crocker Galleria isn't a café, it is a splendid little shop to pick up some artisan blended, single-origin loose leaf teas as a holiday gift. (If you're flying home for the Birth of Santa, it's probably best to minimize that luggage weight, and dried leaves are perfect for that).
But we all know that the season of giving is also a season of agita, and nothing takes the edge off quite like a stiff, holiday beverage that also happens to soothe the nerves. T-WE's tea sommelier Christopher Coccogna partnered with Got Milk? -- the dairy meme that originated with "Aawon Buww" -- to generate some novel cocktails based around the otherwise humble pairing of tea and milk. A Horchata Chai Martini(made with rum and cardamom) will melt right through a racist uncle's Xmas dinner commentary and a Holiday Peppermint Cocktail (with TEA-WE's Vanilla Mint Cambric, tequila, and peppermint schnapps) will keep you floating blissfully above parental questions about what exactly you're doing with your life.
Pete Kane While non-alcoholic, TEA-WE's Lavender London Fog Latte (with Guurl Grey) is delicious.
Being LGBT-owned, TEA-WE's aesthetic is, shall we say, insouciant, producing blends such as "Guurl Grey," "Scandalous ManFriend" and "Bicurious George," as well as "Chai That," "Foggie Morning Brekkie" and "Renegade," each for $15 or less. A snazzy, 43-oz. Canary Glass TeaPot with removable infusing basket is only $49. (Hello, office managers.)
With or without adults-only amplifications, everyone appreciates a good cuppa tea. With a little seasonal boost from Got Milk?, T-WE's making sure tea gets all the respect that coffee does.
