S.F. Steps Up to Help the Victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines
We've seen the horrific images, heard the rising death tolls (reportedly, over 4,000 with thousands more injured, missing and displaced) and felt for the people affected by Typhoon Haiyan -- the deadliest Philippine typhoon since 1991. Although the disaster is half a world away, Bay Area restaurants and organizations are rising up to provide aid and relief for the victims.

The S.F. Mandarin Oriental is hosting a Filipino-inspired happy hour tomorrow from 4-7pm, with 50% of the sales donated to support relief efforts. Enjoy oysters, Pork Lumpia and Lumpiang Gulay spring rolls, chicken barbecue skewers, and atsara--pickled papaya with carrots, pearl onions, peppers and raisins, and Longganisa, a sweet sausage seasoned with garlic with quail egg, rice, and tomato. Half Moon Bay Brewing Company
On Tuesday, November 26, Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. is hosting "Pampered by the Chef Night" at 5 p.m. to raise money for victims of Typhoon. Guests are encouraged to donate, and the brewery will match the funds, with 100 percent of the proceeds given to the World Food Programme. Fort McKinley Restaurant & Bar
On Wednesday, November 27, Fort McKinley is hosting a pre-Thanksgiving fundraising dinner, with part of the proceeds donated to typhoon relief. An additional fundraising event will take place on December 6 in conjunction with the SF Filipino Chamber of Commerce and the SF-Manila Sister City Commission, with a prix fixe menu, live music, comedy, and dancing.
