It's Monday, and in lieu of our usual hard-hitting caffeine and café news, we've decided to take a step back and look how far we've come since the days before single origin espressos were cool, before everyone knew what a Gibraltar was, before Blue Bottle totes outnumbered Frappuccino sightings.

That means going all the way back to this collection of rampantly sexist coffee commercials from the 60's when no woman could be trusted to make good coffee, and all the dudes were mad. Thank goodness Folger's was around to save the day.

In more recent advertising, the convenience store chain Cumberland Farms convinced David Hasselhoff to figure in its newest ad for 99-cent coffee. There is a beach, dolphins, a jet ski, and the Hoff's prolific mane blowing in the wind. As if we'd settle for anything less.
