FiDi's Native Juice Co.: Green Juice You Actually Look Forward to Drinking

Anna Roth
Popeye on Vacation in Thailand: Terrible name, good juice.
A Fairfax man was arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing three bottles of a natural food store's custom green juice blend. It's a stupid and embarrassing thing to go to jail for, sure, but I can relate. Nothing quite hits the spot when I've over-indulged like a green juice packed with vitamins and other things that are supposed to make me healthy, but that shit's expensive.

When I do pony up the cash, I've lately been really enjoying the Native Juice Co., the new Financial District storefront from a formerly farmers' market-only juicery. Despite cringe-worthy punny juice names like You've Got Kale and Smooth Lavenderator, the blends often have interesting flavor combinations and taste like something besides lemon or the bitter, I'm-only-drinking-this-because-it's-good-for-me flavor of your typical kale situation.

My favorite blend, Popeye on Vacation in Thailand, is a lively mix of spinach, mango, coconut juice, mint, and ginger. The ginger adds a bit of heat, the mint cools it back down, the mango gives a hit of tropical fruit, the spinach makes it green and makes me feel like I'm drinking something good for me. At $5 for 12 ounces and $6.50 for 16 ounces, it's definitely a once-in-a-while indulgence -- the nice thing is that it actually tastes like a treat.
