Ewe Know It: Lamb Jam Hits San Francisco on Sunday, July 21
Chefs are battling for a rather meaty title on July 21, when the 4th Annual Lamb Jam returns to San Francisco. While we could debate the merits of New Zealand or Australian lamb over Colorado and California lamb any day, this event is strictly for American lamb, and is put on by the American Lamb Association -- hence the promise of "hands-on American lamb butcher demos" from 10 unique and local lamb producers. Organizers likely honed in on the fact that the Golden State is the largest producer of lamb in the country.

Guests can look forward to cocktails for the 21 and over event, lamb swag, cake pops, and a scavenger hunt (the winner gets, you guessed it, free lamb, which is way more fun than any writing pen or bouncy ball in our minds.)
Competing chefs include Dino Vazquez (Eastside West Restaurant & Bar); Larry Finn (Scala's Bistro); Vernon Morales (Town Hall/Salt House); Sophie Uong (Pican Restaurant; Adam Mali (Mandarin Oriental/Brasserie S&P); Francis Hogan (Bluestem Brasserie); Matt Greco (The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards); Ben de Vries (luella Restaurant); Mike Ransom (Jasper's Corner Tap & Kitchen); Alicia Jenish (Grand Café); Antelmo Faria (Tacolicious); Laurance Gordon (Thirsty Bear); Charlie Ayers (Calafia Café); Kyle Itani (Hopscotch); and Avery Holt (Puccini & Pinetti). Jokes about being baaaaad to the bone and whatnot abound, since hey, it's a lamb event.
At last year's event, Chef Vernon Morales of Town Hall / Salt House nabbed the Best in Show award for his "epic fig leaf-wrapped grilled lamb loin with tomato fig marmalade, sheep's milk yogurt, and chickpea polenta," as reported here in SFoodie.
Tickets are $60 for general admission. VIP tickets are sold out. Until July 12, there is a 4-Pack special for $200.
