Pal's Takeaway's Fourth Anniversary Party, Expansion Plans

Categories: Events, Sandwiches

It's a little-disputed fact that some of the city's best sandwiches come from Pal's Takeaway, the tiny counter ensconced in Tony's Market at 24th and Hampshire (though you may remember a few months ago when they were raising Kickstarter funds for a move/expansion; more on that in a moment). Anyway, the beloved sandwich shop is celebrating its fourth anniversary this Friday with a bevvy of super-special sandwich-making guest stars.

Nopa's Laurence Jossel will be serving his house-cured tasso ham on Josey Baker bread. Wise Sons Deli is teaming up with Pal's to make a pastrami bahn mi. Former Pal Dave Knopp will be bringing smoked coffee-rubbed pulled pork with house BBQ sauce on a Firebrand onion challah bun. And Joe and Amy from Marla bakery will be serving chai-masala pot de cremes with rose and huckleberry syrup for dessert.

As for the expansion, it's definitely still in the works. Pal's Takeaway owner Jeff Mason tells us that he's teaming up with his old friend Michael Meadows, whose new wine bar, La Movida, is under construction in the former El Delfin space at 24th and Folsom.

"I'm really excited about it because I'll have a full kitchen," Mason says, adding that they'll have table service and plan to expand the menu. "We'll be able to do more stuff than we'll be able to do here."

Expect the Pal's/La Movida combination to open in June or July. In the meantime, celebrate four sandwich-filled years with Mason on Friday.
