Thomas Keller watchers, get ready: next weekend, San Francisco will be the home to the International Association of Culinary Professional's (IACP) 35th annual conference that has a regional theme of "Dirt to Digital: Real Food in a Virtual World." Keller, Joyce Goldstein, Bruce Aidells and Andrew Knowlton of Bon App├ętit are on the schedule, along with many other food world heavy hitters. IACP is a professional organization for folks of all stripes who work full time with food -- members include chefs, food stylists, TV personalities, cooking school teachers, caterers, scribes & editors, publicists and marketers, along with reps from food producers, suppliers, manufacturers and appliance makers (be on the lookout for swag!)

Joining or volunteering gets your IACP experience revved up, sure. Do note that not all volunteer shifts are still available, so plan accordingly. There is another way to get what is billed as a "full taste" of IACP programming by ponying up $25 for Sunday's Book and Blog Festival and Culinary Expo--a relative bargain compared to the joining or attending the full conference. The Book and Blog Festival connects bloggers, writers and publishers together and in theory nabs you face time with Diane Morgan, Kristine Kidd, Naomi Duguid, Marie Simmons, Nancie McDermott, and Aida Mollenkamp. Autographed copies of books will be available and do follow our insider tip of bringing that farmers' market-wheelie cart or a ginormous tote bag to stash your printed and bound culinary gold.

Happening at the same time will be the Culinary Expo, which comes highly recommended to us by Bruce Aidells. He is always a draw for his meaty knowledge and wonderful stories. IACP's Emily Ingle Kealey shared that Sunday's expo, "is more than a trade show, it's an educational and networking event," which we take as a gentle reminder to get a rush order of MOO or Vista Print business cards. A $25 registration gets you into both events and you must register at IACP's website. Both events will be held concurrently on Sunday April 7, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The Concourse, San Francisco Design Center, 635 8th Street (at Brannan).
