One of the big San Francisco food blog stories of this week was how Hutong restaurant is returning back to its previous identity of Betelnut after just about a month, right after a negative review from Michael Bauer dropped. Chef Alex Ong from the restaurant formerly known as Hutong and soon to be reintroduced as Betelnut leads a class on Asian braising and steaming at Tante Marie's Cooking School from 2-4 p.m. on May 8. Admission is $75.

If you want to do something special for mom on Mother's Day and you don't want to try to score a reservation or cough up inflated restaurant prices, take her to the demonstration class held by Parties That Cook at 10:30 a.m. on May 10 at the Ferry Building. Over the course of two and a half hours, enjoy dishes fit for a queen prepared in front of you and recipes revealed for bacon-wrapped apricots with blue cheese and balsamic honey glaze, zucchini pancakes with smoked trout and minted yogurt, chorizo and potato frittata bites, artichoke crostini, and brioche bread pudding with blueberries and white chocolate. Tickets are $85-98.02; the higher price includes a souvenir apron.
