File Under: things that get you buzzed. Like many folks, you might be a slave to chemical rituals. Caffeine in the morning, and booze at night. In the name of efficiency, we recommend combining the two at every opportunity. If you mean business, and want two buzzes in one (no, they don't cancel each other out...), then Stone Brewing has two new beers that are pertinent to your interests.

Stone's Russian Imperial Stout is one of the best values in craft beer. The lush, rich brew is a prototype of the style, won't hurt the pocketbook at $7-8 per 22oz. bottle, and ages with the best of 'em. Every other year, Stone releases an adulterated version of the beer with an additional flavor infusion as part of their Odd Beers for Odd Years program. This year's batch introduces the beer to espresso beans from Ryan Bros. Coffee. After noticing that the beer pours like crude oil, you'll immediately perceive aromas of iced coffee and chocolate. The flavor follows suit, with notes of dark fruit and mocha. At 11% abv, it's one strong cup 'a joe. Try pairing with a lamb roast, French onion soup, Point Reyes blue cheese or dark chocolate.

As a contrast to the pitch black Espresso Russian Imperial Stout, Stone has also released the Dayman Coffee IPA. Fans of bright espresso shots should like the beer, which marries citrusy Citra hops with fresh coffee from Chicago's Two Brothers Brewing, who collaborated on the brew and recently began roasting their own beans. Try this brew with coffee-rubbed pork shoulder, or as an interesting dessert pairing with tiramisu.

Stone's Dayman IPA is currently on shelves at better beer stores, and the Espresso Russian Imperial Stout is trickling onto shelves now.
