Nosh and Learn at S.F.'s Jewish Food Festival
Calling all Hebrews, She-Brews, Other-Brews and Non-Brews: quit your kvetching and check out the San Francisco Jewish Food Festival on Sunday, March 17th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hazon and the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (3200 California St.) are teaming up to host the event, which is a local version of Hazon's national, multi-day conference. For one day, Bay Area residents will have the opportunity to learn, taste, and experience the Jewish Food Movement through local merchants and activists.
The festival is broken down into two parts. The shuk -- or market -- is free and open to the public, where Bay Area purveyors will be on hand to showcase their food (think knish and rugelach), artwork and other crafts. With Passover beginning the night of the 25th, this is also a perfect time to stock up for the holiday ahead.
There will also be a conference-style portion that will offer over 30 sessions during which, according to Hazon's website, "...foodies, beekeepers, rabbis, nutritionists, chefs, farmers, vegans and omnivores will come together to explore the dynamic interplay of food, sustainability, Jewish traditions, and contemporary life."
Some of the classes offered include, "How to Savor Food Through Yoga," "Crafting a Miriam's Cup," "Ethical Hunting," and "Homemade Dumplings: Easier Than You Think!" Registration is $36 for the entire day, which includes access to the classes as well as a Kosher, vegetarian lunch catered by 12 Tribes.
The closing ceremony will feature a keynote by Vivien Straus of the Straus organic dairy farm, who will speak about her family's activism and background as well as the state of affairs in the dairy industry today. There will also be a special exhibit displaying 24 images from the Lexicon of Sustainability, informing people of the most basic tenets of sustainability in the hopes they will be able to make a change.
