SF Beer Week: Thursday Event Roundup
All right, Lothario, we already know what you're thinking; it's Valentine's Day and you want to woo that special someone while enjoying the bounty of SF Beer Week. It's your lucky day. The beer week schedule has more beer-and-chocolate pairing events than you can shake a long-stemmed rose at. But we're gonna make you put in the work and peruse those events yourself. Today's preview will have nary a truffle nor bonbon in sight. Without further ado, a beer geek's guide to Valentine's Day.
First, a celebration of cask-conditioned ales at Magnolia:
Festival of Firkins
Where: Magnolia Gastropub, 1398 Haight, S.F.
When: Feb. 14, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Cost: Pay per drink
What: Over a dozen casks of "real ale" available in pints or sample pours. Expect a handful from Magnolia as well as curated selections from other breweries. Blindfold your date, order some fish and chips, and convince her that you've whisked her away to a proper English pub.
Enjoy another whimsical taste of Europe with Mikkeller at The Trappist :
Meet the Brewer and Label Artist with Mikkeller
Where: The Trappist, 460 Eighth St., Oakland
When: Feb. 14, 7 to 10 p.m.
Cost: Pay per drink; more info here
What: Meet Denmark's famous gypsy brewer, who has created over 600 beers since 2006. Every tap will be pouring Mikkeller's brews, including rarities. This comes on the heels of the announcement that the Trappist and Mikkeller will open a bar together in downtown San Francisco.
Lastly, a special dinner date at Abbot's Cellar:
Brewer's Banquet with Alesmith Brewing
Where: Abbot's Cellar, 742 Valencia, S.F.
When: Feb. 14, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Cost: $125 plus tax and gratuity
What: An intimate four-course dinner at a communal table with the owner and brewmaster of Alesmith Brewing. Expect special cellared rarities and, naturally, chef Adam Dulye's masterful cuisine. If you're looking for an impressive date option, act quickly -- these seats won't be open long.
