Holiday tea at Top of The Mark, located on the 19th floor of the InterContinental Mark Hopkins, is worth considering as an annual mini-splurge to have a taste of luxury in San Francisco. The almost 360-degree views of the city offer a cool feng shui-esque moment of feeling on top of the world. Put your pinkies up for a sip, a generous amount of food, and a choice of settings: One is a good bet for children, and one is more suited to adult tastes.

Don't worry, this is elegant but it's not a stuffy affair. Chef Christophe Depuichaffray and pastry chef Phoung Vuong are collaborating on menus for the standard Holiday Tea ($40/$50 with unlimited champagne) and the kid-friendly Magical Holiday Tea ($48). The latter includes face painting, magic tricks, and a buffet with separate savory and sweet options for adults (including Kobe beef and pulled pork sliders and chicken wings and kids (mac and cheese, ham sandwiches, criss-cross potatoes). All generations will have to fight over who may lay claim to the ginger cookie decorating station.

The Holiday Tea features the more traditional three-tiered setup with finger sandwiches, scones, and the like as well as seasonal dessert bites like pumpkin cheesecake and fruit tartlets. Holiday Tea runs through Dec. 19 and then returns from Dec. 26-28, while Magical Holiday Tea runs Dec. 7-8, Dec. 14-15, and Dec. 20-22. Reserve online or by calling the Top.
