Headed to wine country or Tahoe? Plan to stop and shop at the Meyer factory outlet in Vallejo or Fairfield for a once-a-year deep discount on pots, pans and nifty cooking gear from the likes of Rachael Ray and Paula Deen through December 10. The annual Friends of Meyer sale also runs online through December 12. Use a code of "CHEER2012" for an added 30% off plus free shipping on orders of $49.99 or more. Discount dreamers: note the online inventory is not as plentiful as the in person deals. Meyer is home to a plentiful stash of pots, pans and much more culinary gear.

Jenny Landfear, VP of Human Resources at Meyer Corporation, U.S. explains the reasons behind sharing this bounty:

"The holiday season is the only time of the year when we, the largest cookware company in the States, open our doors to consumers for a chance to buy at great savings an extraordinary range of cookware, bakeware, kitchen tools, teakettles, tabletop and more, from top brands, such as Anolon, Circulon, KitchenAid, Farberware, Rachael Ray, Paula Deen and BonJour."

With the promise of up to 70% off regular prices, I decided to check out the Meyer sale in Vallejo last weekend. It was organized and appealing, and they even have a free coffee station to greet shoppers. Shoppers may find they really can't say no to an adorable and sturdy piggy cutting board (all your future charcuterie displays will look amazing!). The piggy cutting board is from Paula Deen, and was priced with a $6.90 discount off the discounted price of $22.99. Sold. Au gratin dishes make nice hostess gifts, and come in a range of bright hues. With a discount price of $4.54, I went with the undeniable urge to stock up. Cake pans, cookie sheets, pizza cutters, pastry brushes, tea kettles and French press coffee makers are other creative and useful ideas to put the "oh yeah!" in your holiday gifting. There are also quite a few sets of pots and pans that would be a sweet set up for someone who has just moved or needs to refresh their cooking gear. One insider tip from this Friend of Meyer: nab street parking directly across the street from the building, for easy loading. There is a free parking lot but it runs far behind the building, where parking is slower. Why delay?
