Recchiuti's Moonlight Skates Are a Non-Denominational Treat
All through December, SFoodie is bringing you local gift ideas for the food obsessives in your life.![]()
Recchiuti The Moonlight Skates box by Recchiuti.
Ice skating under the stars at Union Square is an idea that's definitely better in theory, because you're likely to hurt yourself wearing those flimsy rental skates and crashing into other people who also don't know how to stand on top of thin blades. The romance of the idea is probably better expressed in chocolate, as local candy maker Michael Recchiuti has done with this non-denominational yet seasonal box of burnt caramel truffles he calls Moonlight Skates ($20 for eight pieces).

The burnt caramel truffles are the signature Recchiuti piece. They're typically emblazoned with Michael Recchiuti's initials, but they're also the selection that gets the benefit of these seasonal makeovers. The filling is a burnt caramel flavored dark chocolate ganache rather than, say, actual runny or chewy caramel. Classic, with a sophisticated and sweet twist.
Find Moonlight Skates and a wide array of other holiday gift options (including splurges like the monthly chocolate delivering Obsession Club) at Recchiuti in the Ferry Building and its sister shop in Dogpatch, Little Nib.
