Quivira Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2010 ($16.59)
Mary Ladd
This is a berrylicious zin, not-over-the-top wine with black cherry nuances and
smoky smells. Menu suggestions: this local Zin is particularly pleasing served up
with BBQ, pizza, braises and stews -- hearty fare that is apropos respite from the
area's recent chilly rains. Quivira Zinfandel's tannins are firm but not overwhelming,
which means you can comfortably lick your lips and take another sip.
Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs ($12.99)

Costco's price on this approachable, soft and creamy tasting fruity bubbly is two to
five dollars cheaper than other outlets, hey! Trivia: a cheery "la-di-da!" tidbit from
Wine Enthusiast proclaims that this bubbly is said to be fit to be served at the White
House for all receptions. Pair it with salty snacks, cheese plates, and spicy ethnic
dishes of the Asian variety. You'll never be sorry to have an emergency bottle of this
bubbly on hand for last minute guests, and a drop of pomegranate syrup gives it a
festive look.
Sierra Cantabria Crianza Rioja 2008 ($13.99)
Mary Ladd
This ruby red "everyday wine" called Rioja from Spain is aged for over fourteen
months in four year old and American oak barriques (barrels). The winemaking
process gives way to rich, strong and deep sugary fruit flavors. Expect pleasing
notes of black cherry, chocolate, coffee and tobacco. This Rioja is best served with:
tomato sauced pasta, Chinese food, and any kind of chili (veggie, beef or turkey).
