Thrive Cleanse Presses Juices Inside a Wine Bar

Thrive Cleanse
Thrive Cleanse has grown from hosting pop-up juice bars inside the nine-year-old Nectar Wine Lounge in the Marina to moving its full-time operations (including a 300-pound juice press) there. It's now open seven days a week (8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends) to sell 10 varieties of juices (packaged in 16-ounce bottles), cleanse sets, and specials like vegan soups for the colder months. For people who haven't encountered cold-pressed juices and cleanses, the price point can be a bit of a sticker shock (a beginner's set starts at $65 per day), so we cornered co-founder Megan Propp to ask why.

She explained that each bottle contains as much as three pounds of produce, as in the Green Dream, a blend of kale romaine, spinach, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon, parsley, and ginger. The juices are also live, with a shelf life of approximately three days. We tried an unscientific mini-cleanse by sampling four out of the six bottles that would constitute one day for an entry point detox, and while we won't deny that it only took us a couple of hours to miss the sensation of actually chewing solid food, it was also quite clear by the end of the day that we were experiencing a feeling of relaxed fluidity and well-being that comes with being so well hydrated and pumped full of fruits and vegetables. It's a feeling we're willing to part with some extra cash to experience again.

Thrive and Nectar have recently partnered up on a collaborative weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring light fare alongside flights of pressed juice mimosas. Playing off of the balance, there's even an option to try a full carafe of juice with a full bottle of sparkling wine, a combo they lightheartedly call "Good vs. Evil." As Thrive likes to point out, there's something to be said for being able to detox and retox in the very same place.
