Support These Two Food-Focused Shops on Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday is the lesser-known flipside of Black Friday. If you feel the urge for some retail therapy or need to get some holiday shopping done this weekend, we suggest you forgo the unwashed masses at Best Buy today in favor of supporting these small, independently owned merchants tomorrow:![]()

Omnivore Books on Food in Noe Valley hooks you up all year long with free author events from a who's-who of the culinary community as well as fun baking competitions. Saturday would be a great time to show proprietor Celia Sack a little love back; her selection of antique and out-of-print titles combined with the newest of the new from around the world and a great handful of oddities is unmatched anywhere else. And she sells great eggs, too.![]()
Yelp/Emily D. Pot + Pantry.
Pot + Pantry owner Donna Suh stocks new and vintage kitchen accoutrements in her beautiful Mission shop. Much of the inventory would make for thoughtful gifts that your loved ones probably might not think to spoil themselves with, and you'll probably be tempted to pick up a few things for yourself. Their selection of small press food zines is unparalleled.
Both shops are pretty much guaranteed to offer something thoughtful and fantastic for the food lover in your life.
