New Obsession: Bernie's Best Apple Juice
Apple juice isn't something I'd usually order at Blue Bottle (or anywhere) but one morning a few weeks ago I was looking for something with vitamins to have with my morning coffee so I took a chance. I certainly didn't expect to fall in love with the stuff. Long a staple at farmers' markets around town, Bernie's Best apple juice is indeed some of the best around, even just judging from the label -- a line drawing of the handlebar-mustachioed Bernie eating an apple (and possibly winking?).
The juice isn't as sweet as a lot of the commercial stuff -- the apple flavor doesn't even hit at the beginning, but there's a nice, tart apple-ness that comes at the end of the sip. And the organic juice has no sweeteners, additives, preservatives, etc., just 100% Gravenstein apple juice from Pomo Tiera Orchards in Anderson Valley.
At $3 per 10-oz. bottle, this juice isn't cheap. But it's a beverage that summons autumn in all of its falling-leaves-and-hayrides glory, and I'll continue drinking it as long as Blue Bottle keeps carrying it.
