Food Truck Bite of the Week: Bacon Burger at Bacon Bacon
Our weekly bite explores the city's food trucks, one at a time, highlighting our favorite mobile dishes and snacks.
The Truck: Bacon Bacon
The Cuisine: Bacon-laced comfort food
Specialty Items: Bacon Bouquet, Bacon Burger
Worth the Wait in Line? At peak lunchtime, it was a total 17 minutes from the end of the line to food in hand. If you like bacon, yes.
You can't argue with the straightforward nature of the Bacon Bacon truck's name: It's a two-word mission statement, warning to vegetarians and vegans, and lure that says, "Our food has bacon. Lots of it."
While the truck reportedly had a rough start, it's certainly found its groove. Fat, thick, crisp slices adorn most dishes, or if you just want to get to the point, the Bacon Bouquet ($6 for five pieces) is the mainline. The slices are perfectly crisp, and while not as transcendent as the brown sugar bacon served at Foreign Cinema, they are textbook models of how to cook bacon.
While there's no shortage of great burgers, the Bacon Burger ($8, two beef patties, bacon, sautéed onions, cheddar) stands out for its "bacon-iness." The soft brioche like bun cradles two juicy patties dressed with a mustard-mayo sauce and caramelized onions. A small skirt of flattop crunchy cheddar adds a whole other layer of fatty-salty-brittle bites that contrasts beautifully with the pile of bacon on top. It's a burger exquisitely designed to showcase the power and splendor of bacon.
Bacon Bacon may not be your nutritionist's recommended food truck, but for that bacon splurge, there's not better altar to crispy bacon.
