The rundown: Author Laura Werlin leads a demonstration class and tasting of six cheeses. Kick back, let her do all the work, sip a glass of wine, and go home with recipes for goat cheese, beet, walnut, and candied fennel salad; double cheddar and tomato jam grilled cheese; and butternut squash, sage, and brown butter mac and cheese. Only a few spaces remain for this session.
The rundown: Chef Carlo Middione, who owned Vivante Porta Via restaurant on Fillmore Street for almost a quarter-century, presents a two-hour demonstration of the cuisine of Southern Italy. Specifically, he'll make sardines baked with currants and bay leaves, roast lamb with wild mushrooms, fennel with parmesan and breadcrumbs, and budino di ricotta for dessert. Taste all the dishes and then take home the recipes.
The rundown: Sugar can be as insidious an addiction as drugs. This one-hour class from holistic health and wellness coach Renee Pletka is aimed at arming those with a sweet tooth with seven realistic, do-able steps to reducing or eliminating their sugar intake, which can help out with obvious problems (weight) as well as more underlying ones (mood swings).
