Kim Severson spent many years as a food scribe for the San Francisco Chronicle before moving to the East Coast. (We fondly remember how she reported on the nation's gayest Safeway!) Severson has been at the New York Times, where she became embroiled in a friendly battle for kitchen domination with fellow food scribe Julia Moskin. Their cookbook, CookFight: Two Cooks, 12 Challenges, 125 Recipes, An Epic Battle for Kitchen Domination, is based on the 2009 article when they were challenged to make a fabulous dinner party for six on a $50 budget. The two appear at the Left Bank restaurant in Larkspur on Thursday night, 11/29, and at Omnivore Books on Friday (11/30) from 6-7 p.m.

Bruce Aidells is recognized as the Sausage King due to his decades of crafting delectable meaty goods and founding an eponymous sausage company. The award-winning author of 11 cookbooks has a new tome out called The Great Meat Cookbook: Everything you Need to Know to Buy and Cook Today's Meat. Get the book, and if Santa has bequeathed you a tidy sum, see Aidells at a special book event on December 1 at Prospect Restaurant, where his wife Chef Nancy Oakes will be cooking. Kitchen battle, indeed!
