Really, Really Good Sandwiches in the Richmond
Angelina's Café, nestled on California and 22nd Avenue, is one of the Richmond District's hidden gems. Bustling with a lively and spirited neighborhood vibe, Angelina's is the perfect place to venture when you have a hankering for a mouthwatering sandwich, side dish, and soda pop.

My sandwich choice of the day: smoked turkey on rosemary foccacia bread with provolone, roasted Roma tomatoes, and a stroke of genius more commonly referred to as kalamata aioli.

It was precisely the perfect blend of sweet-yet-smokey, gooey-yet-crunchy goodness that melted directly into my taste buds. Angelina's stellar selection of hot grilled sandwiches also includes prosciutto and brie on a toasted baguette; grilled chicken with white cheddar and caramelized balsamic onions on a ciabatta roll; and flank steak with jack cheese, grilled peppers, and chipotle mayo. They also serve roasted turkey cranberry, Italian subs, and BLTs.

Some side dishes include tortellini salad, beat and orange salad with goat cheese, grilled vegetables, mac and cheese and meat lasagna.
And what about that post-lunch sweet tooth, you ask? Well, with their new soft-serve ice cream machines and candy sold by the pound, I think Angelina's has you covered in that department. I tried a sample of the vanilla ice cream topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon and it reminded me of hot cocoa with whipped cream.

More impressive than anything, perhaps, is Angelina's ability to momentarily transport customers out of a restaurant and into an environment that feels much more like your best friend's mother's kitchen.
