TyFlo's Wayfare Tavern Has a Way With Lobster

Lobster roll at Wayfare Tavern.
Wayfare Tavern, the restaurant crown jewel in the Tyler Florence empire, has a tuck-in-from-the-rainy-day pub feel, even when it's sunny outside. A Maine lobster roll, available for lunch and dinner, adds to the warm, escape from the elements vibe that may be carefully calculated here, but admittedly totally works. It's difficult to find a lobster roll in this town that isn't ridiculously dainty, but you won't balk at the size of this sandwich when it lands on your table.

Generous chunks of lobster come dressed in celery seed-spiked mayonnaise, but the touch is so light that it can still appeal to those who prefer a buttered lobster roll (the toasted hoagie bread is, however, buttered, so you get the best of both styles). A fine dice of carrots offers a crucial crunch that the butter lettuce can only hint at; it imparts a nicer flavor than cubes of celery typically do.

Thick cut potato chips, skin on, are dusted with Old Bay seasoning. They're perfect on the side but also a nice little add-on to crumble into the sandwich, however blasphemous that might be. Priced at $20, it's not far above the average price for a far smaller lobster roll. This and a salad is a smart split with a companion, or makes for a hearty solo splurge.
