S.F. Named Top Beer City in America by GQ
Pat yourselves on the back, everyone: The beer guide in GQ's October issue says that San Francisco is one of the top five beer cities in the country. The story praises local favorites like Almanac, Pacific Brewing Lab, and Moonlight for their innovative uses of local ingredients.

What makes San Francisco unlike any other beer haven is its hyper-experimental, foodie-focused beers made by a new breed of Bay Area micro and nano breweries.

S.F. is joined on the list by Denver ("Brewtown, U.S.A."), Philly ("Home of the Perfect Pub Crawl"), Cleveland ("old-school beertown"), and Los Angeles ("the new frontier of beer"). Our only question is why they left off Portland with its 50+ breweries within the city limits, but hey, as authors of these types of lists in the past, we know that variety sometimes trumps logic.
In terms of Bay Area beer coverage, the magazine also lists the Mission's Cerveceria de MateVeza in a roundup of the top 12 beer bars in the country, The Slanted Door as one of the top five beer-and-food pairing restaurants, and a Q&A with new Master Cicerone Nicole Erny of Oakland.
What do you think -- would those be your picks? What did the folks at GQ leave out?
