James Oseland Book Luncheon

Where: Camino, 3917 Grand (at Boulevard Way), Oakland; (510) 547-5035
When: Sat., Nov. 10, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Cost: $50 (not including tax and tip); make reservations by calling the restaurant.

The rundown: Saveur's James Oseland, who recently moonlighted as a judge on Top Chef Masters, seems like the kind of guy one would like to have along at a luncheon. Watching him on television, he can make a stiff and reserved first impression, immediately drawing you in to the vault of culinary knowledge he has, but then little looks, smirks, and quips reveal that he has a real fun side, too.

Continuing its series of meals celebrating cookbooks presented in conjunction with Omnivore Books, Camino Restaurant in Oakland (aka "the Town") will offer a world-wise three-course lunch inspired by recipes from Oseland's The Way We Cook: Portraits of Home Cooks Around the World.

Oseland's bubbly nature below the surface should be uplifting enough, but just in case, there's also wine involved.
