Arlequin Cafe Threatens Lil Debbie With Deliciousness
Arlequin Cafe, the sister spot to neighboring Absinthe Brasserie and Bar, boasts a lovely outdoor seating area and a solid assortment of cookies, including luscious takes on snickerdoodles, pecan chocolate chip, and sour cherry chocolate varieties. The oatmeal cream pie sandwich cookie was created with snack queen Lil Debbie in mind, but that's where the similarity ends.![]()

Whole oats are added to the mixture late in the process before baking, and this addition really makes the whole package by offering a nice bit of give in what is otherwise a very soft and subtly spiced cookie. The rich butter and cream cheese-based filling makes a laughing stock of Lil Debbie's unidentifiable fillings.
Absinthe's pastry chef, Bill Corbett, says he is working on other varieties of sandwich cookies but this one is plenty popular. He offers a tip that day-old cookies are sold off for a buck, but there are rarely any left to sell.
Corbett is also working on a new cookie plate for Absinthe as well as boxes of shortbread cookies that will be available to go, a convenient snack to take into the nearby opera or symphony.
