Spice Up Your Weekend at Redwood City's Salsa Festival
Redwood City's 5th Annual Salsa Festival
Where: Downtown Redwood City (Courthouse Square)
When: Sat., Sept 29, 12-8 p.m.
Cost: Free
Seeing as its motto is "Climate Best by Government Test," we humbly suggest that Redwood City add to that, "And We Also Host a Salsa Fest!" On Saturday, the city will host its 5th Annual Salsa Festival in Courthouse Square, where there will be a salsa-tasting competition, plenty of festival food, kid-friendly crafts and rides, a tequila tasting, and, of course, salsa dancing.

In the salsa competition, 14 groups of both professional and amateur salsa chefs will compete for various titles including Best Mild, Best Hot, and Best Decorated Booth. A panel of judges will judge entries based on aroma, consistency, color, appropriate heat level, taste and after-taste. Attendees to the festival can also purchase a tasting kit and vote on their favorite salsa -- the winner of which will be crowned "People's Choice."
If you find yourself in the near-guaranteed state of salsa over-indulgence, you can cool down your palate with frozen drinks, shaved ice, smoothies and lemonade. Kettle corn, baked potatoes, Caribbean foods, oysters, teriyaki chicken, tortas, mini donuts, and roasted corn on the cob will also be available from an assortment of vendors.
The festival is family-friendly and includes free hands-on art projects, carnival rides and a bounce house for the kids; tequila tasting, and the option to bring in your own beer and wine for the adults. Caltrain stops a few blocks away from Courthouse Square, so you don't even have to worry about driving once you get your tequila on and start bustin' out your Latin dance moves. We're excited to spice things up this Saturday! Are you?
