The rundown: Cavallo Point, otherwise known as the Lodge at the Golden Gate, offers a palette of cooking classes ranging from basic technique like knife skills to whimsical ideas like this one. Learn how to make elevated and way healthier forms of Hostess and other treats, including dark chocolate "Ho-Hos," citrus "Twinkies," and strawberry-glazed "Pop Tarts." Kids are welcome.

Carroms and Chai: An Afternoon of Culture, Community, and Learning

The rundown: This afternoon doubles as a cooking class, where you'll learn the fundamentals to making great chai from Deepa Natarajan from the UC Berkeley Botanic Garden, and a gaming instructional on Carroms, an Indian board game that's been likened to a mini version of billiards. Indian classical music, all on vinyl, will be the soundtrack.

The Secrets of Cereal: History & How-To

When: Wed., Oct. 3, 7-9 p.m.
Cost: $35 (purchase in advance via Brown Paper Tickets)

The rundown: Rob Huribut, Daniel Wiser, and Annelies Zijderveld from healthy cereal company Attune Foods provide an overview of their non-GMO and largely gluten-free offerings and offer a demo on how to recreate some of their products at home.
