Sign a Petition to Release the White House Honey Ale Recipe

Good news, home brewing fans: You could be brewing the same beer as President Barack Obama in a few months.

Last week the news broke that the White House brews three varieties of its own beer on the premises -- White House Honey Ale, White House Honey Blonde Ale and White House Honey Porter -- all made from honey from the beehive near Michelle Obama's Kitchen Garden.

The White House has remained quiet about the recipe for the brews, which the Obamas pay for out-of-pocket, though the President has passed out bottles to a few lucky citizens during his campaign tour (he keeps his presidential bus stocked with the stuff).

But! This week an enterprising Reddit user has filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the recipe:

Disclosure of the requested information to me is in the public interest because it is likely to contribute significantly to public understanding of the operations or activities of the government and is not primarily in my commercial interest. Recipes are commonly shared among the home brewing community as a means of learning advanced or new techniques in the creation of small batch ales.

And there's a separate petition on the White House's website asking for the recipe to be released:

In keeping with the brewing traditions of the founding fathers, homebrewers across America call on the Obama Administration to release the recipe for the White House home brew so that it may be enjoyed by all.

The petition only has about 2,000 signatures as of writing, and needs 25,000 by Sept. 17. Come on San Francisco! Let's do this! White House beer for all! [via HuffPo Food, Fedblog]
