The rundown: The Underground Market, thrown by local hunter-gatherers forageSF, returned to the scene two months ago after retooling to cooperate with the health department. The popular event now has a smaller and more focused crop of vendors who cook properly in commercial kitchens, and this month's installment features hot food and take-home bites from frequent Market sellers like Good Foods Catering (barbecue), Simply Mochi (Japanese dessert), and Greasebox (vegan soul food). August also brings a crop of new homespun companies, including Cava Funnel Cakes (carnival cavity inducers), Wooden Spoons (rillettes), and Raavling (Italian). Held in the lively nightclub environs of Public Works, the Underground Market is a great place for discovering new flavors.
