Tosca Update, The Corner Store and Bread of Life Open, Ron Siegel Heads to Michael Mina

Categories: Buzz Machine

The latest gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.

There's more to the Tosca story, according to Inside Scoop. While Tosca has officially received its eviction notice, landlord Roger Forbes, makes a point to say he wants to keep it Tosca Cafe -- under the same owners or new ones, and that he has no plans to put a strip club in its place. Well, that's good news.

The Corner Store is officially open -- heated patio, soda fountain, and all (5 Masonic at Geary). Eater SF shares the neighborhood-geared restaurant makes all their syrups in-house, and their website details an extensive cocktail program and says their menu is "reinterpret[ed] American comfort food."

Further out in the Richmond District, there's a new to-go bread counter, called Bread of Life on Clement at Fifth Avenue. Over on Chowhound, chowhounders discovered another location back in June, and shared it's a charity connected with making the adjustment to living in the U.S. easier for immigrants. The line extended out to the curb this weekend.

Changes in the kitchen: Inside Scoop reports Ron Siegel will be the new chef at Michael Mina. Siegel got his start with Mina in 1991 at Aqua, before venturing on to other restaurants, such as his latest -- Parallel 37, which will be a year old this December. He'll appear in the Michael Mina kitchen in several weeks.

Over in the Castro, Grub Street discovers Tangerine closed over the weekend as planned. They also note the restaurant is in the process of securing a new place, but plan to reopen in the general vicinity of their -- now -- old location.

And finally, there's been some movement the Ecco coffee front on Potrero Hill. Inside Scoop shares they've undergone a branding change (now to be known as Intelligentsia San Francisco), and plan to start roasting beans in a few weeks, but alas, the retail side of the locaiton won't be open until early 2013.
