Fast Times at Ridgemont High Prank Tributed in The Spicoli Pizza

The Spicoli at the Pizza Place on Noriega.
The Pizza Place on Noriega, located two blocks from Ocean Beach (aka the end of the Earth), is a surfer favorite that has a loyal clientele for its gluten-free and vegan options as well as its formidable original creations. One such beast is the Spicoli, named after Sean Penn's unforgettable Jeff Spicoli character in the 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High. It's easy to imagine Spicoli coming to a place like this for a slice.

In a famous scene, Spicoli orders a pizza into the classroom. The delivery man comes in and asks, "Who ordered the double cheese and sausage?"

The Spicoli is made to order and takes 25 minutes to cook in a brick oven. Sausage is layered both underneath and on top of the double cheese. It's not pretty; the chili oil in the sausage pools at the bottom of the pan, making this a pie that needs a fork and knife.

Don't make the same mistake we did and order a large 20-inch pizza for two, even with an eye for leftovers; the "smaller size," a 16-inch medium, would be a plenty huge choice for the Spicoli. We forgot that double cheese and double sausage means double processing on the arteries, and two healthy eaters were felled on just one beautifully indulgent slice, shaking our heads in defeat. We'll probably be gnawing off of it for the next week while wearing Spicoli's happy grin.
