The rundown: Baker, author, and instructor Peter Reinhart leads a demonstration class featuring recipes such as no-carb hush puppies, biscotti with sugar-free chocolate glaze, and pecan flour and flax meal toasting bread. Sit back with a glass of wine while he does all the work and get the recipe and a taste at the end. The class informally doubles as a celebration of the book of the same name that Reinhart releases tomorrow via Ten Speed Press.

Mama Thai Cooking Club

The rundown: This three-hour, hands-on course demystifies Thai dishes such as yellow curry beef roll with tamarind sweet chili sauce, tom yum baby pork ribs, and pad si ew. Instructor Jirayu "Ann" Poeter offers new Thai menus to choose from each week if this week's doesn't appeal.

Real Wheels: A Make Your Own Cheese Course

Cost: $145
The rundown: Cheesemaker Louella Hill will show you how to make a cheddar wheel, with a free optional waxing instructional to follow on August 28. There are only a few tickets left as of press time, but if you miss this round, there's a wide-open "cheese clinic" coming up on Oct. 1 featuring tastings and examinations.
