Bombay Ice Cream Still Scooping Up Exotic Flavors

Mango-rose and sweet paan ice cream
A few days ago we stopped in to Bombay Bazar and Ice Cream, the much-beloved Indian ice creamery formerly of the Mission and now on Van Ness by the freeway. We're pleased to report that ice cream scoops are back, and they are delicious. We particularly enjoyed the neon swirl of mango and rose -- it tasted of fresh mango with a flowery finish -- and the fennel-laced sweet paan flavor that reminded us of the breath fresheners you find by the cash register in Indian restaurants.

We could have stood at the counter tasting ice cream for hours, but showed admirable restraint. We will be back for flavors like fig, cardamom-rose, and the intriguing chiku fruit, as well as for the savory menu of chaats and fresh samosas.
