Star Chefs April Bloomfield and Marcus Samuelsson Headline Omnivore Books Dinners
Omnivore Books on Food is San Francisco's one-stop shop for culinary literature and celebrity chef readings/sightings, and next month owner Celia Sack is kicking it up a notch with two collaborative dinner events featuring acclaimed New York chefs Marcus Samuelsson and April Bloomfield at Oakland's Camino Restaurant (3917 Grand).![]()
Ecco April Bloomfield.
Samuelsson celebrates his book Yes, Chef: A Memoir with a three-course meal on July 11 at 6 p.m. His unique roots as an Ethiopian adoptee to a Scandinavian family in Sweden subtly informs the cooking at his international restaurants, diverse though they are; his businesses include soul food spot Red Rooster Harlem in New York, Norda and Street Food in Sweden, and Marc Burger in Chicago and Orange County.
A three-course dinner with April Bloomfield of New York's offal-ly adventurous The Spotted Pig, The Breslin, and The John Dory Oyster Bar follows on July 25 at 6 p.m. It's a party for her book A Girl and Her Pig, which combines her personal story (which includes a stint at Berkeley's Chez Panisse) with recipes.
Samuelsson's dinner is $85, including wine; the price of Bloomfield's night is to be confirmed. Call Camino at (510) 547-5035 to make reservations for either dinner and to taste the work that is the foundation of these books. Alternatively, you can call Omnivore at 282-4712 to reserve a signed copy of either book to purchase at the store.
