San Rafael's Sol Food Serving Puerto Rican Lunch in S.F. This Month
For years, SFoodie has made a regular pilgrimage across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Rafael to indulge in Puerto Rican classics and new twists at Sol Food. Luckily, the restaurant has set up temporary digs in San Francisco to serve lunch at SF FoodLab, a restaurant that's part of the new pop-up project called A Temporary Offering at the Renoir Hotel (1106 Market).![]()

The restaurant is offering an abbreviated menu in San Francisco featuring rotisserie meats, a veggie/plantain casserole and daily specials such as chicken soup with plantain dumplings or pasteles (beef or veggie pie), with most entrees priced between $8-10.
Customers order at the counter and can eat in the casual and comfortable space or easily take the meal to go. Orders are ready in moments, unlike in San Rafael where a wait to order is common practice.
Incidentally, owner Sol Hernandez was very gracious about us shamelessly begging her to permanently set up shop in San Francisco. For now, she says she plans to pack up and leave SF FoodLab after June 29, so there's still time to get a Puerto Rican fix in the city. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays.
