Snickers Mini-Donuts, Your Puppy Is Getting It On, and the Vegan Drag Queen is Back!
- Let's kick things off with a little WTF:A new study by the Environmental Working group shows that while California produces 12 percent of U.S. agricultural output, we only get 5 percent of farm-bill spending. Why? Because Cali grows silly fruits and vegetables! Think fruit and veggies are too expensive and crappy food is cheap? Thank your government. Thanks, bros!
- Now, above for your viewing pleasure, vegan snickers mini donuts from Fork and Beans! Man, mini food is the best. Goddamn cute-ass mini food!
- Denny's is the latest company to ditch pork from gestation crates. Huzzah! I actually don't think I've ever been to a Denny's -- is that possible? I don't think there were any Denny's in West Philly when I was growing up. Or was it all just parental neglect? They never taught me to snap my fingers, you know. I can't snap and I've never been to Denny's! Call the authorities!
- The reaction from the pork industry to Denny's new policy has the Humane Society asking, is pork the new veal? I can't wait until milk is the new veal. Eff milk to effing hell.
- On the ad beat, we have a cute and funny spay/neuter commercial:
What do we think? I'm into it! And message received: Fix at four. - On the ugly side of the ad beat, check out this disturbing illustration of the money spent on advertising by meat-pushers versus anti-meat organizations:

It's amazing that animal orgs make any ripple at all. It must be because our message is so strong! Booyah! - Bittman is discussing meat and its awful effect on the planet again. He says making new cars and spending a zillion on public transportation is great and let's do that, but "In the meantime, we can begin eating less meat tomorrow. That's something any of us can do, with no technological advances. If personal choice enacted on a large scale could literally save the world, maybe we have to talk about it that way." Oh Bittman, have my babies.
- Some people in Canada are seeking to apply human rights legislation to veganism. If it's a set of ethical beliefs, should it not be given the same legal protections as other belief systems? What say you?! NO CANADA JOKES.
- In celebrity news, Meredith Vieira is vegan now. I have no idea who she is but other people seem to be excited and I say, welcome to the fold, sister!
- Episode 4 of the Vegan Drag Queen is out! The recipe is chocolate chip pumpkin bread but more importantly, damn I want that pink dress!
- And for my final act, DON'T CRY, CRY BABY: two herds of elephants traveled 12 hours to hold a vigil for their late human companion.
