The Rundown: Organizers of the Eighth Annual Asian Heritage Street Celebration, the largest gathering of Asian Pacific Americans in the country, promise the event will allow visitors from around the world to come together in the greatest cultural exchange humanity has yet come up with: eating.
A smorgasbord of food vendors and trucks will provide an impressive range of foods, including treats like Filipino lumpia and Japanese tapas. The Chairman Bao Truck will serve up the buns that have made it one of the Bay Area's highest-profile food trucks, joined by Seoul on Wheels' Korean tacos and a smattering of the city's best Asian fusion on wheels. The festival will also include celebrity chef cooking demonstrations for the first time.
Charles Phan, executive chef and owner of The Slanted Door group of restaurants, and James Beard Award-winner, will demonstrate the modern Vietnamese cuisine he is credited with inventing when he opened the first Slanted Door on Valencia Street almost 20 years ago.
