Planning for SF Beer Week Day 6: Gypsies and Nostalgia

SF Beer Week is officially half way over. By this point, you've become something of a gypsy yourself: a beer nomad who wanders between tastings and beer dinners, you haven't changed your clothes, shaved or showered in five days. You've come to resemble Jack Sparrow, but with less eyeliner and, somehow, more booze on your breath.

To honor the release of your inner vagabond, meander through your day sampling beers from 'gypsy brewers' who brew on borrowed time at other established breweries:

Gypsy Beer Tasting

Where: Alembic, 1725 Haight St. (at Shrader), 666-0822
When: Wednesday, February 15th, 12pm
Cost: pay per drink
What: Enjoy a curated selection of beers from various gypsy breweries, including local favorites Almanac Beer Co.
Mikkeller Single Hop IPA Tasting
Where: Press Club, 20 Yerba Buena Ln (at Market), 744-5000
When: every day of beer week, 4pm
Cost: $15 beer flight
What: Sample 9 IPAs brewed by Denmark's Mikkeller. Each beer was created with a different hop varietal, allowing for a unique comparative tasting experience.

Map This: Sipping Session with Stillwater Artisan Ales

Where: City Beer Store, 1168 Folsom Street (at 8th), 503-1033
When: Wednesday, February 15th, 6pm-9pm
Cost: pay per drink
What: Gypsy brewer Brian Strumke will take attendees through a tour of his saison-focused beers, created at breweries around the world. Nibble on bacon-infused chocolates from Nosh This while sampling rarities such as Bronze Age Spelt Saison and two barrel-aged versions of Folklore, a Belgian stout.

And for those who want to reminisce about the days before gypsies took over the city, take a stroll down memory lane at Public House:

Remember the Magic

Where: Public House, 24 Willie Mays Plaza (at 3rd St.), 644-0240
When: Wednesday, February 15th, 4pm-10pm
Cost: pay per drink
What: Drink cellared favorites from 2010 while watching a highlight reel from the 2010 World Series. The first 60 people to purchase beer can take a free tour of the ballpark.  Beer highlights include Firestone Walker Parabola, Port Brewing Older Viscosity, and Sierra Nevada's Wood-Aged Life and Limb.
