Golden Glass: Slow Food, Wine, and Free Tickets on Us
![]() |
If you like Italian wines, you'll like the Golden Glass wine and food event, and we may even be able to take you there (more on that at the end of the post). Golden Glass is Slow Food's annual tasting focused on wines from Italy.
The large-scale tasting at Fort Mason, Slow Food's eighth, offers wine and food from "artisans around the world in celebration of Slow Food's work to advocate for sustainability, biodiversity and preservation of food traditions." This year's event also celebrates the launch of Slow Food's new wine publication, Slow Wine, "Slow Food Italy's new, comprehensive and meticulously researched guide to Italian wines." The guide looks at how the wines taste and how ethically and environmentally they were produced.
The Piemonte is particularly well represented, and the event effectively covers Italy from boot tip to top with a half-dozen California wineries as well. A complete list of wineries is online.
Unlike many of the larger consumer wine tastings, the food at Golden Glass is actually good, if not as abundant as the wine. A16 and Delfina always do something nice, and we see Bi-Rite and Izakaya Yuzuki are coming this year (see the complete list here). There's usually a bit less food than we'd like, but it helps balance out the intense wine exploration.
When: Feb 4, 2012. 1-5 PM
Where: Fort Mason Center Herbst Pavillion
Tickets: $80 for wine and food / $30 for food only. Under 5 enters for free*.
Online at thegoldenglass.com. Slow Food Member discounts available.
*One new thing we haven't seen before, but piqued our interest in the press release: a kid's area. Not sure how that will work, but perhaps it's a de-facto day care for dual tasting parents? Here's what the official release says:"Sanchez and Miraloma Elementry schools will also provide a children's area with fun and educational activities for children. Both of these schools offer garden programs supported by Slow Food San Francisco, and will benefit from The Golden Glass."
