Not decapitation--mochi pounding!
What: Mochi Pounding Ceremony

Where: Asian Art Museum

When: Sat., January 14, 12-1 p.m.

Cost: Free, with museum admission

The rundown: Celebrate the Japanese New Year with Kagami Kai, San Francisco's own mochi tsuki group! The creation of mochi can be a real ceremony, complete with music, dance, and elaborate costumes. Plus, afterwards, you hopefully get to eat delicious mochi. Delicious.

When the ceremony is done, the museum provides even more fun for your family with an art project inspired by the New Year, storytelling, and an Art Explorers' Family Tour.
