Hodo Soy Beanery Ships Products to Costco Today
| Is Hodo's mind-blowing yuba next? |
If the tofu sell well, Hodo hopes that Costco will increase its range of products, as well as start carrying the tofu in stores outside of the Bay. Right now, it's on trial, based on the sales of the first shipments.
This makes life even more confusing for foodies: Am I a better person for going to Costco and supporting Hodo, or am I a better person for eschewing Costco and supporting local businesses and reasonable quantities? Such delicious dilemmas!
Either way, the current stores slated to sell Hodo are in Danville, Santa Rosa, Novato, Mountain View, San Francisco, Livermore, Almaden, Richmond, Concord, and Folsom. The available products will be plain tofu (three 12-ounce units of firm tofu in a box), Five Spice Tofu Nuggets (1 lb. in box), and Spicy Yuba Strips (1 lb. in box). Yum.
As far as price, Deirdre Stewart, Sales Manager at Hodo says, "They never sell anything for more than 14% margin, so they can sell it for a much lower price."
She continues, "We're going to be in Costcos, doing demos, teaching people how delicious the product is. We're so happy they're interested."
SFoodie is excited about this because it opens up the possibility of buying 50 tons of Hodo's fresh yuba for two dollars. It is, after all, #2 on SF Foodie's 92.
