Changes in North Beach

The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.

As some restaurants gear up for their Christmas dinners, and others prepare to bow out before the end of the year (such as 2223 Restaurant, Citizen Cake, Leticia's, Namu, Spork), today brought a couple snippets of new openings and closures.

Inside Scoop
notes that North Beach's Steps of Rome Trattoria has closed and is on the market. We're sure the highly visible cafe space will be snatched up in no time.

Just a few blocks away, Inside Scoop also discovers Original Joe's is readying to re-open in January (their website has a countdown clock). We're sure the many fans of the Italian restaurant (since 1937) will be there en masse since they haven't been able to grab a bite at the S.F. outpost of the restaurant after a fire closed the Tenderloin location in 2007.
