Kicks Cookies and Ice Cream: So Good, You Might Reconsider White Chocolate

Your Cook E. Monster is not what you would call a big fan of white chocolate. In fact, if it were legally possible to petition to stop calling that particular substance chocolate, we'd be campaigning right now.

But Kicks Cookies and Ice Cream has had us reconsidering the icky bits this week through a cookie combo that we didn't think we'd dig: White chocolate and dried apricots. Here the fruit's tartness is nicely balanced by the sweetness of the confection. They're made with local and (some) organic ingredients, such as sugar and unbleached wheat flour. We ate multiples in order to verify that they were consistently good, not because we have a problem around excess cookies. Other varieties in the 25-flavor company arsenal include red velvet, peanut butter and jelly, and dark chocolate with cherries.

There are a handful of places to get Kicks in San Francisco, including Cal Mart, Cheese Plus, and Harvest Urban Market. Those in the South Bay (or willing to take a little field trip) might want to call ahead for the opportunity to check out Kicks in San Jose (898 Lincoln Avenue; (408) 275-6919). While it is the factory and not a retail shop, it is also a place where, among other delights, one can purchase these cookies as anchors in ice cream sandwiches.
