Permano Caramels and Toffee Can Make You a Holiday Hero

toffee1.jpg
There's a strong tradition among home candy makers of making a big batch of toffee, then breaking it, bagging it, and becoming the best friend of the moment as they make the rounds with their holiday deliveries.

If you have a friend like this, you're likely already anticipating the mass of solid sugar to come next month. But if you don't, or you want to be that person but have no skills, you might be able to leverage the Permano family's grandmother. The current family of wife, husband, and son are making grandma's recipe in Napa and selling the results.

Permano Caramel Almond Toffee offers a firm roof of toffee with a thick base of chocolate dusted heavily with almonds. They're rich with butter, a thorough sweetness and a hint of bitterness at the finish from the caramelized, to lightly burnt, sugar. There are notes almost of rum when the chocolate, toffee, and almonds combine, delivering a sense of warmth.

If you aren't thinking about the holidays yet, you will be after you eat one of these.

Available at Mollie Stone's, Draeger's and other locations or directly online for $7 for 4ozs, $12 for 8ozs or $23 for 16ozs.
