Cafe Gratitude in Santa Cruz Looks to Stay, Dear Mom, and Good News for Chicken Lovers

Update on Cafe Gratitude: Our own Luis Chong reports one Northern California location is not closing after all -- Santa Cruz. This cafe, which opened Aug. 15, is owned by the owners' son and stepson, Matthew Manzo, under a different LLC than the Bay Area locations. Terces and Matthew Englehart's other two sons oversee the current L.A. location. Anyone in S.F. thinking they'll miss those "I am" dishes can also plan a road trip to visit the new branch in Venice Beach, which is slated to open in Spring 2012. Will other locations pop up in Southern California? Time will tell.

While Prather Ranch Meat Co. won't spill the beans on their new restaurant, Tablehopper learns, via a Craigslist help wanted ad, that they're planning to open American Eatery in the Ferry Building. It'll feature to-go items, such as sandwiches and burgers, and should be open before the end of the year.

Dear Mom, the new bar from the the Thieves Tavern team, opened last night (2700 16th St. at Harrison). Tablehopper says there is a whiskey-focused drink list, which I'm sure Dad will love, and a casual bar menu, with brunch all day Sunday. Just one thing, Uptown Almanac says they don't have their liquor license yet, but Eater SF shares the inspector is coming by today.

Berets and baguettes: Eater SF discovers Chez Berule, a French, upscale market, is slated to open just down the street from the new French restaurant Bistro Unique. They're slated to stock the shelves full of all the French cheese, wine, and charcuterie one may ever need -- for daily life in the Marina. No opening date as of yet.

If hungry for chicken, then you're in luck. There's two new chicken-focused places about to open. Inside Scoop notes the second location of Limon Rotisserie, in Bayview at Carroll Station (5800 Third St. at Carroll), is planning to open Dec. 2. They also share that Roostertail, the all-things-chicken restaurant in the Fillmore is slated to open Dec. 7 (1963 Sutter at Fillmore).

The shuttered Lilah Belle location has a taker; the MateVeza brewery plans to open Cervecería de MateVeza in the corner cafe space, according to Inside Scoop. The brewers of the yerba mate IPA buzzy-brew will serve Argentinian food and empanadas alongside their beers. But two, large, roadblock stands in the way of its projected Spring 2012 opening -- they don't have approval from the ABC or the S.F. Planning Commission yet.

Those stopping by Coco-luxe for coffee on their way to work, can now grab a glass of wine there on the way home as its evening counterpart Coco-vine. Tablehopper discovers they opened the tasting bar yesterday and are serving glasses alongside chocolates specifically created to accompany the wine.
