Off the Grid Moves Under SF Chronicle on Fridays
Off the Grid has been so successful at putting street food once a week on Fifth and Minna Streets, in the alley that bisects the San Francisco Chronicle, that its appearances are doubling.![]()

Starting this week, food trucks will roll in on both Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This is a significant expansion for Off the Grid, because it's the first time the organization will supervise two food-truck gatherings at the same time. Off the Grid also runs a street-food market at Civic Center Plaza on Fridays.
"We've had the permit to do the Fifth and Minna for a couple months," said OTG founder Matt Cohen. "We wanted to wait until we had the bandwidth."
Trucks lined up for Friday this week are: An the Go, Brunch Box, Creme Brulee Cart, Five Ten Burger, Nom Nom, Sanguchon and Vesta Flatbread.
"There won't be any crossover of vendors from Wednesday and Friday," Cohen said.
We asked Cohen if he thought parking food trucks about 100 feet from the Chronicle Food section twice a week would cause it to notice street food.
"No comment," he said.
