Demanding Free Food, Dobbs Ferry is Coming, and New Name: Tandoor on Haight
The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.
Is there a right to free food? Apparently one guy thinks so. Richmond Blog's police blotter shares:
On 09/13 at 10:30am, an intoxicated male made his way into the kitchen of 1000 Great Highway [home to the Beach Chalet & Brewery] and was demanding free food. The staff was able to escort him out, and they notified the police of the incident. The officer located the suspect at Fulton and LaPlaya and attempted to detain him. The 52 year old male told the officer that he was "exercising my right to free food."
Our own Jonathan Kauffman shares Inner Richmond's less-than-a-year-old Burma Tea Leaf has papered windows, but the phone is still connected - maybe it's just temporary? Down the street, the remodel for the restaurant set to replace shuttered Coriya Hot Pot City is coming along, but still no word on the name or cuisine (825 Clement at 10th Ave.).
East Coast meets California at Dobbs Ferry, the new restaurant slated for the former Allegro space (409 Gough at Ivy). Inside Scoop shares that the restaurant, named after a town in New York, is from Scott Broccoli, Danny Sterling, and chef Mike Yakura. They're planning to have a 40-seat lunch space on the opposite side of the building that used to house a kebab restaurant, and have a full bar and have an additional 40 seats for dinner on the Allegro side. The plan is to open in November.
Name change: Haighteration reports Naan n' Chutney has replaced its moniker with Tandoor on Haight (525 Haight at Fillmore) to avoid less confusion with Naan n' Curry. The menu and ownership are said to have stayed the same.
